Director of Policy & Research/Chief Economist

The CSI Director of Policy and Research/Chief Economist is responsible for the production and management of all CSI research publications, including fellowship reports. In addition, the individual is responsible for both creating and carrying out the methods to estimate economic, fiscal, and other impacts related to research and content of CSI releases. The Director of Policy and Research also supports organizational efforts to communicate and distribute our research through public speaking, media and other events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1)    Produce Report Content– Responsible for ensuring that CSI research and publications are of high quality and contain findings and insights that support CSI’s mission and build credibility.

a.    Writing and approving of project scopes of work

b.    Writing/editing/partial formatting of report drafts

c.     Engagement with CSI management and key stakeholders for approval of scopes of work and key findings

2)    Economic Analysis – Responsible for supporting detailed project scopes of work and contributing expert research and analysis.

a.    Organize and maintain datasets for recurring projects

b.    Maintain transparent techniques that allow for transparency in report documentation

c.     Estimate economic impacts through use of internally developed models and licensed software such as REMI and IMPLAN.

3)    Research Content Distribution and Public Education – Responsible for supporting the research release efforts

a.    Provide feedback and ideas for the creation of final distribution materials such as final report, one-pagers, presentations and social media posts.

b.    Engage in efforts to education Coloradans through both CSI and third-party group presentations, media appearances and stakeholder meetings.

4)    Research Staff Management – Responsible for organizing workflow of research staff to ensure timely and accurate production of research.

a.    Manage team member assignments, roles and tasks for completing research projects.

b.    Collaborate and manage CSI Fellows with their research projects through managing CSI staff to support fellows.

c.     Provide reviews, feedback and support to CSI research staff to help professional advancement and to improve their ability to contribute to CSI.  

5)    Stakeholder Engagement – Responsible for engaging key CSI stakeholders including board members, donors, member and other third parties to both further our mission on the research efforts but also to build CSI’s visibility, relationships, reach and contributions.

a.    Engage CSI board members regularly to keep updated on research, seek feedback and leverage their experience and connections when appropriate.

b.    Maintain and develop relationships with CSI member organizations and potential member organizations.

c.     Maintain and develop relationships with select CSI donors
